Lalique Lookalikes

The success of Lalique spawned copies of his famous perfume bottles as early as the 1910s and 1920s.

A company named Societe Parfumer used exact copies of Lalique's Ambre Antique bottle for their perfumes. The differences are the shapes of the stoppers and the copy bottle is not molded with the Lalique signature as on the original bottles.

Lalique's Salamander Stoppers

Here are two items showing copies of Lalique's salamander/Lizard stopper. These bottles are American and made for the American Toilet Goods Company of Boston. The advertisement shown below urges Americans to buy American made products to not only remain patriotic but to also save on the duty tax on French made perfumes. American companies started copying the French styles to compete during the first World War. Just as the Americans copied the Czech perfume designs during WWII when importation was at a standstill.

Lalique's Amphitrite Copy

I was lucky enough to come across another lookalike bottle. This time it was put out by Parfumerie Ande in the 1920s. The bottle is a direct copy of Lalique's Amphitrite bottle.
